Large Scale Wind Energy Project — Wetland, Stream, & Upland Mitigation
We collaborated with partners to develop wetland, stream, and upland mitigation for a wind energy project permitted through Article 10 of the NYS Public Service Law and the Clean Water Act Section 404. Currently in its monitoring period, this project involved the restoration and protection of more than 45-acres of land at two sites in western New York; a former dairy farm and a current dairy farm. Restoration activities included 2.75 acres of wetland establishment, 14-acres of wetland rehabilitation via conversion of a large reed canary grass monoculture to a diverse, native palustrine and scrub-shrub community, 3-acres of wetland enhancement by planting a forested buffer along Cassadaga Creek, and exclusion of cattle from over 1,400 linear feet of stream and 5 acres of associated riparian wetlands. Our team was responsible for siting, mitigation plan development, agency coordination, permitting, implementation oversight, annual monitoring, and adaptive management. Key partners included Working Lands Investment Partners and EcoStrategies Engineering and Survey.
